An interactive zine about a migrant’s journey with uprooting her life, starting a business, and growing her community.

Situated in London’s culturally-diverse East End, Yun Gui Chuan is co-run by Fanny Leung and her husband. They’ve brought a piece of Hong Kong culture to London’s dining scene, with Fanny sharing more about the transition and experiences as a business owner in a foreign country.

This publication stands as a physical memorialisation—a receipt, if you will—of our exchange in-store on a Wednesday afternoon.

The graphic pages follow along the story told on the running receipt-insert, with the overarching elements drawing from the ephemera found around the restaurant.

Out in the wild

At my end-of-year 1 showcase, the zine’s prototype version was displayed for public viewing in two parts—the complete publication on the table for perusing, and an extra copy of the running receipt as a stand-alone textual piece.

The publication is currently on display at Yun Gui Chuan’s Brick Lane branch.
