I Don’t Wanna Grow Up

The transition from childhood to adulthood is often viewed as scary. Many draw a clear line between the two stages of life and have the impression that they have to abandon their inner child to progress. However, this line and distinction is arbitrary.
This documentary photo series peeks into the lives of three pairs of individuals at various ages, exploring their relationships to the idea of growing up.
Like most people at some point of teenagehood, I had the thought that my parents were ‘grown-up children’. It allowed me to embrace their personal humanity more, and thus drove this publication’s theme of ‘growing up’ to function as a practice of empathy for viewers.Inspired by Anthony Luvern’s collaborative approach to photography, I simply spent time with each pair. Each booklet is a visual deriviation of their conversations, thoughts on the theme, and its presence in their own lives.
